Today's update is coming, but is delayed until later than usual. Stay tuned!
Fighting Fantasy Falls Upon the Mobile World
Remember the old-school Fighting Fantasy games? They were a lot like Choose Your Own Adventure books with a dash of tabletop RPG mechanics thrown in to make things more interesting for older readers.
If you said no, then you can get a taste for that classic genre on your favorite mobile device. The guys at Tin Man Games, makers of Gamebook Adventures, have teamed up with Fighting Fantasy to bring legendary FF master Ian Livingstone's Blood of the Zombies to iOS and Android.
I love seeing this sort of project flourish, especially with the backing of such legendary figures in the history of printed game books. As a long-time fan of game books and of computerized interactive fiction, it's great to see the genre entering such a revival in the mobile space. I've long thought that game books were perfect for the Kindle, and while they seem to be doing a lot better on the iPad, their adoption on the tablet side does mean they benefit from fantastic multimedia presentations that (for now at least) the Kindle simply couldn't provide.
Check out the HD gameplay trailer for more if you're not sure you get the concept of a book that's a game that's a book, and let me know what you think!
New Fiction Improbable Site Design
Ever since I switched to Squarespace version 6, I've been missing the sidebar I used to have. At least, mostly missing it. That sidebar got pretty busy for a while there, and that part, I definitely did not miss.
I've switched to a new V6 template that has a sidebar again, and I'm going to do my best not to let it get as full as the old one did. Please do let me know what you think of the new design; I know there are still some issues left with it, especially the menus. I'll be working to resolve them ASAP.
Site Refreshing
Bear with me for a little bit as I refresh the template on the site. I'm having some problems with the mobile navigation elements and menus, but hope to get them resolved soon.
Improbable Goings-On
HEY! Time for an update on what's going on around here.
I did some writing for GeekBeat in the last couple of days, and the new post is up. I take a look at CountMeIn's Facebook app. They're a company that makes it very easy to find a gift you'd like to give and let friends chip in on it so you don't have to pay for the whole thing. Looks interesting, though some might wish it weren't tied to Facebook.
I've been busy here on the site, too, of course. I'm continuing to post chapter updates to Fiction Fragments as I make progress on The Price of Entanglement. I have chapters 1-6 posted so far, and I'm working on getting 7-9 assembled and posted. I'll post a table of contents here when I've got it all up.
NaNoWriMo is coming up fast, and I'm working on my idea for this year's event. I seriously doubt I'll be close to finishing The Price of Entanglement before November, so that will probably end up going on break until December, or maybe I'll keep updating it during November as well, if I have time.
And finally, we're getting really close to the 1-year anniversary of the start of this crazy writing experiment I decided to do. I'm looking forward to that for sure! I have some ideas in mind for how to mark the occasion, so stay tuned!
